Michigan State was mentioned on Tuesday in court proceedings in New York related to the FBI college basketball recruiting scandal, but in a positive light.
The trial of two former Adidas employees and alleged money-running Saginaw native Christian Dawkins has been focused on the recruitment of former five-star forward Brian Bowen, a Spartan target who committed to the University of Louisville under dubious circumstances.
The attorneys for Dawkins said that many schools offered illegal compensation in exchange for Bowen's basketball talents, but not Michigan State.
"Michigan State was one of the only schools that was not going to pay Brian Bowen to go there," attorney Steve Haney said, according to the New York Times' Adam Zagoria.
Several other schools in addition to the University of Louisville were named on Tuesday as allegedly being willing to pay for players: the University of Oregon and University of Arizona, both Nike-sponsored schools, and North Carolina State University, an Adidas-sponsored school.
The University of Louisville is an Adidas-sponsored school, while Michigan State is sponsored by Nike.
