Michigan State football is No. 11 in preseason AP poll

Michigan State football is the No. 11 team in the country, according to the preseason AP top-25 poll released Monday afternoon.

This is the first time the Spartans have been ranked No. 11 in the preseason program history.

Three Big Ten teams rank above MSU — No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 5 Ohio State and No. 10 Penn State. The only other Big Ten team to rank behind Mark Dantonio's team is the University of Michigan at No. 14.

MSU is also No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll. Three Big Ten teams are above MSU in the coaches poll — No. 3 Ohio State, No. 7 Wisconsin and No. 9 Penn State. U-M is also the only team to rank behind the Spartans at No. 14.

Dantonio’s team will begin the 2018 season against Utah State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised on BTN.
