Michigan’s primary election will take place Aug. 7. This election will determine who will be on the ballot for positions like governor and U.S. Senate member in the November election.

The three Democratic gubernatorial candidates include former Michigan Senate Democratic leader Gretchen Whitmer, former Executive Director of the Detroit Health Department Abdul El-Sayed and entrepreneur Shri Thanedar.

Endorsements for gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer include Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, former Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard, the United Auto Workers and the Michigan Education Association.

El-Sayed’s endorsements include former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Michigan Nurses Association

“I’m proud to endorse Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for Governor of Michigan. As governor, Dr. El-Sayed will fight for a government in Lansing that represents all the people, and not just wealthy special interests. Under Abdul’s leadership Michigan can help lead the nation in guaranteeing health care for all through a Medicare for All single-payer type system, tuition free public colleges and universities, a minimum wage of $15 per hour and strong environmental protections,” Sanders said in a statement July 25.
