After finding themselves down once again for quite some time, baseball came back strong once again with another strong victory over Toledo, 5-4.
MSU now improves to 15-21 on the regular season and extends its longest winning streak of the season to five.
"It is a good win," head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. "Proud of our guys. They just keep fighting, keep competing and its a high character group of kids. They don't quit."
Toledo took the lead early on after a triple by outfielder Ross Adolph and a sacrifice fly by Dalton Bollinger to secure a 3-0 lead at the top of the first. In the third, Bollinger would single to left to bring home a run to take a 4-0 lead.
Heading to the bottom of the fifth the Spartans found themselves in another hole once again, trailing 4-0. However, sophomore Bryce Kelley would double to right center to bring home sophomore Danny Gleaves to put the Spartans on board for the first time on the afternoon.
In the bottom of the sixth, catcher Chad Roskelly would come home to score after a fielder's choice that would also send junior infielder Marty Bechina to third.
Outfielder Dan Chmielewski would single to left to bring home Bechina to make it, 4-3.
Roskelly would single to center in the bottom of the seventh to bring home freshman Zach Iverson to tie the game up. With that hit Roskelly would extend his hitting streak to 14 and extend his reaching on base streak to 18.
Roskelly lead the way for the Spartans with two hits, one run and one RBI.
"We went through an eight-game skid and it was a tough sled for a while," Boss said. "You know you get a little bit of success, we have a good mix of veteran guys and a lot of young guys playing at the same time and when you can get some success from one another, that carries over."
Momentum shifted to the Spartans as sophomore infielder Bailey Peterson tripled to left to bring home Iverson and to give the Spartans their first lead on the day and for good.
Redshirt senior Jake Lowery took home the win after a clutch inning in the bottom of the eight to end the side with two men in scoring positions and only one out. Lowery improves to 3-2 on the season.
MSU will stay home to face Maryland in their three-game weekend series starting on Friday, April 27 with first pitch set at 3:05 p.m.
"Again, they're all big you know," Boss said. "This series is the same. Obviously, you know you want to play well at home and we do have some momentum going. Six Big Ten games in a row I guess it is. It's important for us to play well against Maryland."
