After an incident in December 2017 that ultimately led to an arrest warrant for MSU trustee Mitch Lyons, he's taking his case to court.

Lyons rejected a plea offer from a Jackson County prosecutor, he said in a tweet sent out Wednesday. Lyons was originally charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

Lyons said he didn't take the plea deal because he's "100% innocent."

“The warrant has been cleared and the overall situation is a misunderstanding," Brian Lennon, Lyons' attorney, said in a previous statement. "We look forward to the facts coming out on this baseless claim and to seeing this legal issue resolved.”

Lyons has been an MSU trustee since 2011. He is currently serving an eight-year term.

Lennon could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
