Before both the men's and women's basketball team ever even look to hang banners at the Breslin Center — there's Michigan State Madness.

And for the 2017-18 edition of the Spartans, the date for the marquee event has been set.

Fans can expect to enter the Breslin for free at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. The formal program, though, begins at 9:30 p.m.

In past years, men's head coach Tom Izzo and women's head coach Suzy Merchant has collaborated for a number of theatrics.

Both teams will be introduced and hold team scrimmages during the event.

The men's team opens its season Oct. 26 against Ferris State in an exhibition game. The women's team plays Lake Superior State Nov. 5 to begin its season.
