Women's golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, right, talks with junior Sarah Burnham before a shot on Sept. 25, 2016 at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Slobodnik-Stoll has held the head coaching position at MSU for 19 years.

In her 20 years as head coach of MSU women's golf, Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll has led the Spartans to the national spotlight.

And again in 2017, the Spartans are on full display: MSU has qualified for the NCAA National Championships after a third place finish at the NCAA Athens Regional. It's the 11th time MSU has made the tournament under Slobodnik-Stoll.

The performance also tied a program-best third-place finish for MSU at the NCAA Regional round.

“We played great and were in a comfortable position all day,” Slobodnik-Stoll said to MSU Athletic Communications. “It was a nice day and we had enough players playing solid golf that we just needed to stay where we were to get to the national championships.”

The Spartans were led by a newcomer, freshman Paz Marfa Sans. The Barcelona, Spain native shot an even-par 216 (71-74-71), leading MSU with a career-best performance.

Upperclassmen in junior Sarah Burnham and redshirt-junior Katie Sharp rounded out the top-20 group for the Spartans.

MSU looks to continue adding to its hardware collection after claiming the Big Ten crown earlier this season. The NCAA Championships are scheduled from May 19-24 in Sugar Grove, Ill.
