On Saturday, MSU baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr. reached a momentous milestone in his career. The ninth-year coach recorded his 300th career win in the Spartans' 13-4 victory over the University of Richmond.

“It’s a cool honor," Boss said. "I had no idea until I was informed a couple weeks ago that I was getting close. Winning number 300 is special, we’ve had a lot of good kids here at Michigan State that we’ve been fortunate enough to work with and had a lot of great assistant coaches here that should get and deserve most of the credit for the wins that we’ve got. Those guys work really hard to get us ready to play, to recruit, and that’s a reason why this is a total program effort, so to be a part of it is something that I’m very blessed to be able to do.”

As Saturday's win marked the team's 11th win of the season and improved their overall record to 11-4 on the season, senior second baseman and team captain, Dan Durkin, presented Boss the game ball.

"It’s awesome," Durkin said, "Obviously, he’s had great teams before us, but being the team that got the 300th win for him is pretty special, and all of the guys were pretty excited about it after the game and on the bus."

Boss and the Spartans followed Saturday's historic day with a 2-1 loss to Cornell on Sunday. The loss gives Boss an overall collegiate coaching record of 300-220 over the span of ten years, while holding a 275-186 record as the Spartans' head coach.

The Spartans, now 11-5 on the year, concluded their 16-game road trip as they play their first home game of the season Wednesday against Central Michigan University. First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m.
