MSU women’s basketball ended its three game losing streak with the win against the University of Wisconsin, 81-57. The Spartans improve their overall record to 14-7 and are now 4-4 in the Big Ten. Senior guard Branndais Agee led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points, with senior guard Tori Jankoska right behind her with 13 points.

MSU started off the game a little slow, allowing Wisconsin to go on a 4-0 right out the gate. It took the Spartans more than two minutes to score their first points. MSU turned up the intensity and opened its biggest lead of the quarter, being up by seven points, 14-7. The Badgers tried to stay close, but they missed several pivotal layups and 3-pointers that allowed MSU go on a 7-0 run.

In the second quarter, the Spartans scored 27 points to Wisconsin’s 18. Throughout the whole quarter on both sides there were plenty of missed shots and turnovers. Wisconsin had four turnovers in the second quarter with freshman forward Courtney Fredrickson having three of them.

In the last half the Spartans only scored 17 points in the third quarter and 16 points in the fourth. In the fourth quarter MSU held Wisconsin to only nine points. MSU opened up its largest lead of the night over Wisconsin with 24 points, which kept them on top until the end.

The Badgers got to the free-throw line plenty during the game, but only shot 57.1 percent, 12-for-21. The Spartans shot 100 percent from the free-throw line 10-for-10. Jankoska successfully landed all four of her free throws.

MSU outrebounded Wisconsin with 40 rebounds, and the 29 defensive rebounds carried its total over the Badgers. Wisconsin outrebounded the Spartans offensively, 12 rebounds to 11.

Agee just missed getting a double-double with 18 points and 9 rebounds. She was 4-for-7 for 3-pointers had one steal, two blocks and was 100 percent from the free-throw line.

Jankoska had a little trouble against the Badgers, having the most turnovers on the team with four. She still earned a double-double with 13 points, with 3-for-5 from the 3-point line. The senior guard had 11 rebounds, five assists and a steal, only allowing one personal foul.

MSU women’s basketball has one more road game to play before it heads back to the Breslin Center on Feb. 2. On Jan. 30 the Spartans will play the University of Minnesota at 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
