After a 2-1 semifinal loss to No.1 Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament, the MSU soccer team looks to rebound in the NCAA Tournament.

On Monday afternoon, during the NCAA Selection Show, the Spartans found out that they would not receive a seed in the tournament, but instead have to play a first round match against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. MSU will hope to defend DeMartin Stadium once again to move on in the tournament and play No. 15 seed Butler in the second round.

SIUE comes to DeMartin with a 10-4-5 overall and a 3-3-3 away record. The Cougars are coming off winning their second Missouri Valley Conference championship in three seasons. The Cougars are led by forward Devyn Jambga, who leads the team in goals with six on the season.

The Spartans come into the match with a 13-5-1 overall and a 9-0-1 home record. The Spartans are led by sophomore forward Ryan Sierakowski, who has a team-high nine goals on the season and freshman phenom Giuseppe Barone, who has three goals and four assists.

A couple of Big Ten teams also made their way into the tournament — Maryland was selected as the No. 1 seed in the tournament and Indiana was selected as the No. 7 seed.

The Spartans will look to defend DeMartin from the SIUE Cougars and keep their postseason hopes alive Thursday at 1 p.m.
