MSU football graduates Jack Allen, Paul Lang honored for academic achievement

Former MSU football players Jack Allen and Paul Lang have been named to the 2016 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, according to an MSU press release.

The National Football Foundation awards the honor annually to undergraduate football players in their final season of eligibility who have earned significant playing time on their football teams while also earning grade-point averages of 3.2 or higher.

Allen and Lang both graduated in December 2015. Allen, a hospitality business major, earned a 3.31 GPA overall, while Lang finished with a 3.46 as an economics major.

Lang has been honored for his academic achievement before, as he earned the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic's Scholar-Athlete Award. He was a significant contributor to this year’s team at the tight end position, and was a four-year football letterman.

Allen was a decorated offensive lineman during his time at MSU. He first joined the starting lineup during his freshman year and developed into an All-American during his junior and senior seasons. Allen has entered into MSU lore, inspiring the next generation of Spartan linemen. Allen is projected to be a 5th-round pick in this weekend’s NFL Draft, according to nfldraftscout.com.

Allen and Lang were two of 872 players honored across all divisions of college football, with honorees coming from 277 different schools, the most in the Hampshire Honor Society’s 10 years of existence. They are two of 16 Spartans who have been named to the Honor Society in its history.
