Former MSU president Gordon E. Guyer has died at 89 years old

MSU's 18th president Gordon E. Guyer died at 89 years old on Wednesday.

He served as president of MSU from 1992-93. 

Guyer received his bachelors degree, master's degree and doctorate degree  from MSU in entomology.

He served many roles on campus, including entomology professor, chairperson of the Biological Science committee, director of MSU Extension and a member of 12 clubs throughout Michigan in varying capacities.

“Gordon Guyer was one of those people who, whenever there was an important position to fill, was always on the list,” MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon said in a press release. “This isn’t just a loss for this institution but it’s a deeply personal loss for Roy and me, so on behalf of the entire Spartan family we want to offer our most sincere condolences to Mary and to the rest of Gordon’s family.”

Guyer has more than 70 scientific papers and received a grant from the National Science Foundation to participate in the International Congress of Entomology in London.

He was also a recipient of MSU Distinguished Faculty Award.
