MSU junior guard Eron Harris has been waiting for this opportunity since transferring to MSU prior to the 2014-15 season. Not necessarily to play on a title contender, but just to play in the NCAA Tournament.

Harris was unable to travel with the team to the Final Four last season as he sat out a year per NCAA transfer rules, but that didn't stop him from driving himself down to support his MSU on its unexpected run through the tournament. Harris said it didn't upset him not being able to play last season though, because he knew his time was coming.

"It wasn’t too difficult," Harris said about watching MSU's run to the Final Four last season from the sideline. “I was just like ‘my time will be next year to be a part of it.’It was actually pretty exciting,it was emotional for me because it was just crazy seeing my team actually go through, like ‘wow, you know, this is really happening,’ and then we went to the Final Four, I almost cried. Every game that we went further I almost cried even more."

Harris has been a key contributor for MSU this season averaging 9.3 points per game and shooting 42.7 percent from the 3-point line. Harris had a slow start to the season offensively, but used it as an opportunity to focused in on his defense and has now become one of MSU's best on-ball defenders. As his defense has improved, so has his confidence and with more confidence his offense has started clicking for MSU.

MSU senior guard Denzel Valentine said he thought the team could have really used Harris' athleticism and ability to create plays for himself and others last year in the Final Four and that he thinks having Harris this time around will be a big boost.

"Yeah, Eron, he provides a lot for us," Valentine said. "I think the biggest thing this year is that he's just going to be consistent. We know what we're getting from him, that he's going to be solid defensively, and then on offense you might get four points from him or you could even go up to 30. So, I mean, he's a really good threat for us to have. He's been great this year."

Valentine said he is rooming with Harris and after seeing how excited Harris has been to be a part of everything so far, Valentine thinks the best is still to come from MSU's athletic wing defender.

"(Eron Harris) and I are roommates, so as soon as we walked in the room he was hyped up about the March Madness gear and everything like that," Valentine said. "I think he's going to step up his game a little bit because he hasn't been to an NCAA Tournament."

MSU head coach Tom Izzo said he relies on his seniors to stress the importance of not trying to do too much and taking things one game at a time to the players who haven't experienced the NCAA Tournament.

Izzo said the ability for his seniors to lead the less experienced players and the willingness of the younger guys to follow the seniors is what makes this team as special as any he has ever coached.

"I tell those three that are seniors that are playing their last one: You better make sure those rookies that are playing their first one understand that you don't have another day," Izzo said. "I think those freshmen, sophomores and juniors want to send those seniors out the right way, and that's really a cool thing. Coaches die for that. And it's really good. Because then we don't have to intervene, it takes care of itself."

While many players have had advice for Harris as he approaches his first opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament, Harris said he is just ready to play and do anything he can to help his team win.

"I’ve got a little bit of nerves,” Harris said. “But, I’m also very confident right now just because I put in a lot of work."

"... It's my first time being here, but at the same time, I’m approaching this as just like any other game this year where there was media and then the basketball game," Harris said. "I just want to do my job on the court."
