Armed robbery reported near campus early Friday morning

East Lansing Police Department issued an alert for an armed robbery that occurred around 5:20 a.m. Friday on the corner of W. Grand River Avenue. and Michigan Avenue. 

A 19-year-old student was walking westbound on Grand River Ave. when he was approached by a suspect who asked him to borrow his cell phone. After he refused to hand him his cell phone, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded for the phone. 

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male with a dark-colored hoodie and dark brown boots. 

There are no injuries reported. ELPD Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth said there are currently no leads on the suspect.
