MSU's Matt Costello is having a career year for the Spartans. In 27 games, the senior big man from Linwood, Mich. is averaging about 10 points and eight rebounds per game.

But while he's helped the No. 6 Spartans to a 22-5 record this season, he's also become the goofiest basketball player in the country. It all started during a victory over Florida on Dec. 12.

“It was weird,” Costello told reporters after the Florida game. “I can’t even describe it. I hope to never do it again.”

Oh, how he was wrong, though. So very, very wrong.

Once again, Costello vowed to never act goofy again. That vow, however, only lasted five days.

Because then the Spartans hit 16 3-pointers in a blowout of Northwestern, and Costello was lit.

But what about following a fast break slam in an 89-73 victory over in-state rival University of Michigan on Feb. 6?

You bet.

Like clockwork, Costello looked embarrassed in the locker room when reporters asked him about the face he made.

"I was trying to figure out what dunk I was going to do before the play happened," Costello said about the play. "I was going to try a windmill, but I didn't want to get stuffed."

And of the celebration?

"I don't know what goes through my mind," he said. "I need to stop doing that kind of stuff."

Eight days. That's how long that particular vow lasted. Because then Costello drilled a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock in a victory against Indiana.
