MSU's sports shooting and training range, Demmer Center, to host 'American Marksman' qualifier

February 29, 2016

The Demmer Center, MSU’s sports shooting and training range, has recently been chosen as a local qualifying range for the new television show, "American Marksman."

The basis of the new show, which will air both on the Outdoor Channel and the Sportsman Channel, is a shooting competition for amateur, non-professional shooters. The winner will receive $50,000, as well as the coveted distinction of being the designated "American Marksman."

“I think the appeal of American Marksman is twofold,” director of the Demmer Center Michael Galella said. “One is that people are allowed to compete in a national tournament with no threat of professionals being there, and the second, obviously, is the prize.”

Participants must register on the American Marksman website and qualifying rounds will be held at the Demmer Center Tuesday through Sunday between 1-5 p.m. during March, April and May. Participants will then be taken through a course of fire consisting of .22 caliber rim-fire ammunition fired from .22 caliber rifles, handguns or both, according to a press release.

Scores for the competition will be consistently updated as the competition continues on the show’s website and the show itself is expected to air beginning December 2016.

The qualifying round is March 1.
