Video: AT&T Stadium, "Jerry World" quick sights and facts

ARLINGTON, Texas — AT&T Stadium is often referred to as “Jerry World” after the celebrity owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones. There might not be a stadium grander than his anywhere else on this planet. The Stadium cost a total of $1.2 billion dollars to build, according to Forbes, and the Arlington taxpayers contributed $325 million. Who paid the remaining $825 million? Jerry Jones himself did.

Here are some quick facts to look at before No. 3 MSU takes on No. 2 Alabama here in the Cotton Bowl:

  • First, we’ll start with the scoreboard. Hanging above the field, is a screen consisting of 30 million LED lights. The video board runs from 20-yard line to 20-yard line, making it the world’s largest. The cost of it was over $40 million, which is more expensive than the entire construction of the old Texas Stadium.
  • Next is the stadium’s height. There is a 320-foot gap between midfield and the roof. This means that the entire Statue of Liberty could fit inside — with feet to spare. The Statue of Liberty is 305 feet tall.
  • The highest attend basketball game in history was at AT&T stadium. In 2010, 108,713 fans attended the NBA All-Star Game. The game put the stadium over its capacity, which is 80,000.
  • The stadium covers 73 acres and the entire site covers 140 acres. It is 3 million square feet and is 900 feet from retractable wall to retractable wall.
  • The steel arches that form the stadium’s structureVVI span a quarter-mile and weigh 3,255 tons. These arches are the longest in the world and are 17 feet wide by 35 feet deep.
  • AT&T Stadium has a retractable roof and retractable end zone doors. The roof is 660,800 square feet, which is the largest in the world of its kind. The roof consists of 14,100 tons of steel, which is the same amount as 92 Boeing 777 airplanes. The glass end zone doors are 180 feet wide by 120 feet high and are the largest moving glass doors in the world.
