The MSU basketball team, coming off a Final Four run in the 2014-15 season, will open up the 2015-16 campaign ranked No. 13 in nation by the AP Poll.

After an impressive and unexpected finish to last season, the Spartans finished the season in the Final Four but were ultimately ranked No. 7 by the USA Today Coaches Poll at the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans now look to return to the Final Four and secure their third national title.

The top ten teams in the preseason AP poll are as follows:

  1. North Carolina
  2. Kentucky
  3. Maryland
  4. Kansas
  5. Duke
  6. Virginia
  7. Iowa State
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Gonzaga
  10. Wichita State

The Big Ten is well represented in the preseason poll with No. 3 Maryland, No. 15 Indiana, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 23 Purdue, and No. 25 Michigan all earning a spot along with MSU. MSU will also enter the season at No. 13 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The ACC/Big Ten Challenge might very well be a big draw this year when teams from the two conferences meet from Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. As it stands today, the challenge could potentially have 10 Top 25 teams between the two conferences.

MSU begins the season Wednesday in an exhibition against Northern Michigan at 7 p.m. at Breslin Center
