Then-Social work freshman Sarah Sochanski works on a video project for her WRA class Dec. 1, 2014, at the Main Library. As the end of the fall semester approaches many students are beginning to go to the library to studying for their final exams.

With the school year beginning to pick up speed, many freshmen are starting to take their first college quizzes and exams.

Although many students have already spent hours preparing for their first college exam, the nervousness of taking it still persists.

Marketing freshman Peter Garfinkel said he hopes his first college exam won’t be too hard, but knows he will have to put forth an effort in order to do well on it.

“I’m hoping it won’t be too different than high school’s exams were,” Garfinkel said. “I’m willing to put more time and effort in this year obviously, it’s college.”

While some students may put more effort into their academics than they did in high school, others are developing alternative ways to prepare for exams.

Other students, such as marketing freshman Alyssa Frank, said completing her homework is the right way to make a positive impact on her college exams.

“Right now I’m focusing more on getting my homework assignments done, and getting everything turned in,” Frank said. “That’ll make exams easier, so I won’t have to cram as much when I do have to take exams later on in the semester.”

Pre-veterinary freshman Autumn Williams expects her exams to be difficult, but believes that after taking her first one, she’ll realize what steps to take in order to ace future exams

Despite all of the various methods students use to do well on a first exam, Williams believes that sometimes simply getting the first one over with can ease nerves which, in turn, will make a second exam less stressful to prepare for.

“Honestly, I expect (my exams) to be very difficult,” Williams said. “I expect myself to do as exceptional as I want myself to do. But I’m excited because once I take my first exam, I’ll figure it out, and see what I need to do to study.”
