The men and women's track and field teams are representing MSU admirably in the NCAA championships thus far.
Sophomore Tim Ehrhardt moved five spaces in the standings from 10th to fifth earning All-American honors in the decathlon.
Senior Leah O'Connor qualified for the championship finishing sixth overall and winning heat one of the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:55.58. O'Connor will attempt to defend her NCAA title on Saturday.
The men will be the focal point of today's action, MSU will have only one athlete competing tonight with senior Antonio James taking part in his fourth-straight discus. The discus will begin at 7:05 p.m., ESPN will begin broadcasting the events at 7:30 p.m.
UPDATE:
With a throw of 60.99m in the final round of the discus, James broke his own school record, which was 60.65m—James earned All-American honors with a fourth-place finish.
O'Connor finished third with a time of 9:33.38 in the steeplechase, also breaking her own school record set at the East Preliminary round of 9:35.33. Her finish earned her All-American honors for the sixth time in her career.
Senior Tori Franklin finished fifth in the triple jump with a 13.38m jump earning her seventh All-American honors.
Freshman Katelyn Daniels and Sophomore Rachele Schulist both earned Second-Team All-American honors— Daniels in the discus, who finished 15th with a throw of 51.81m and Schulist in the 5,000m who finished 14th with a time of 16:10.89.
The women's team finished tied for 20th with 10.0 points, while the MSU men finished 28th with 9.0 points. Oregon won both the women's and men's overall team championships— the women with 59 points and the men with 85 points.
