UPDATE: Motorcyclist likely at fault in Saturday morning crash

June 23, 2015

The driver in the fatal motorcycle accident at Durand Street and Albert Avenue Saturday morning in East Lansing, is likely to be at fault, East Lansing police Lt. Steve Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the operator of the motorcycle, 24-year-old Levi Light, along 22-year-old passenger Reba Williams, were traveling down Durand Street when they came upon the intersection at Albert Avenue. It is at that point, Gonzalez said, it appears Light traveled through a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a van traveling down Albert Avenue. There is no stop sign for Albert Avenue at this intersection at Durand Street.

Both Light and Williams were found dead at the scene. The operator of the van did not sustain any life threatening injuries. ELPD has since undergone investigations to determine who was at fault of the accident.

"Now it becomes the question, 'did the motorcycle disregard that stop sign?'" Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez also said investigators are undergoing work to determine the speed both the motorcycle and the van were traveling at during the time of the crash.
