A plea deal has been offered by the prosecuting attorney in the case of MSU alumnus Meng Long Li, who is currently facing charges for his alleged involvement in the assault of former MSU student Yan Li at a Meridian Township karaoke club on Jan. 31, 2014.

Li received an offer to reduce his charge to a one-year misdemeanor of aggravated assault. The charge makes Li's case so the maximum punishment is jail for a maximum one-year sentence, as opposed to the 10-year felony he is currently facing.

On Feb. 5, 2015, Shan Gao, another alleged attacker in the case, was found not guilty, while the jury remained hung on the decision of Li. That is, until Tuesday afternoon — where the plea bargain was offered by Ingham County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kimberly Hesse in a pretrial at Ingham County Circuit Court.

Li has until his next and final pretrial on April 28 at 2 p.m. to accept the deal. After that, the court will not recognize any sort of plea deal.

Li's next court date is currently slated for May 26.
