In an effort to gather students to "celebrate the success of MSU," ASMSU will be hosting a viewing party Sunday at the Breslin Student Events Center to cheer on the MSU Men's Basketball Team in the Elite Eight game against University of Louisville, ASMSU President James Conwell said.
The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. and is free for all community members.
"This is a great and safe opportunity for students to come together and enjoy the baskektball game in a safe and fun way," Conwell said.
ASMSU officials made the call to go forward with the event on Friday afternoon and Conwell said the event has so far has seen a positive response from students, although official numbers of possible attendees are unavailable.
Though Conwell did not comment specifically on the unrest in Cedar Village early Saturday morning, or if the event was an effort to prevent it from happening again, he did urge students to celebrate in a way that reflects well on MSU.
"I would like to remind students what it means to be a Spartan," Conwell said. "That means looking out for other Spartans, helping other students get home safely (and) celebrating in a positive and safe way that reflects the values of our school and the successes of our institution."
