Two weeks after reaching No. 1 in the USTFCCCA rankings for the first time in program history, the women’s cross country team placed first in the Big Ten Cross Country Championship on Sunday.
The teams win marks the second consecutive Big Ten Championship win — last year being the first in MSU history.
"We came away very pleased with how both groups competed today," MSU Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Walt Drenth said in a released statement. "We told everyone that we wanted to be better than we were at Wisconsin, and I thought we accomplished that today. I think we still have room for growth on both sides, which is exciting to think about as we move forward."
Redshirt senior Leah O’Connor won the women’s race with a time of 19:26.3.
Sophomore Rachele Schulist followed O’Connor and Sarah Disanza of Wisconsin, finishing with a 19:54.4 time. Junior Lindsay Clark followed Schulist in fourth (19:59.7).
Running in first for the men was redshirt junior Caleb Rhynard in fifth place (23:47.8), who led MSU to their fifth place team score.
