"This is certainly as close as we've played to a full 90 minute game...us coaches will try to find holes in things," head coach Damon Rensing said. "Possession was good, (we) created good chances, movement and then put some balls away so that was good."

For the first time this season, MSU came roaring out of the gates offensively. Junior midfielder Jay Chapman scored a goal at the 3:41 mark on an assist by junior midfielder Jason Stacy. The goal was Chapman's first of the season.

The good offensive half continued for the Spartans, as Stacy pushed the score to 2-0 with an impressive strike from deep outside the box putting it in the right corner of the net at the 21:59 mark. The goal was Stacy's third of the season, giving him a goal and an assist just 22 minutes into the game.

"(Jason Stacy) was very good, obviously probably goal of the year—what a great strike," Rensing said. "Great game by Jason Stacy along with a lot of other players."

Shortly after the second half started MSU made it 3-0 on a goal at the 48:21 mark by junior defender Zach Carroll, with the assist coming from a free kick by Stacy. 

MSU continued the offensive onslaught with a goal by senior midfielder Fatai Alashe at the 55:45 mark with an assist coming on the corner kick by Stacy.The goal was Alashe's second of the season, and the assist — Stacy's third of the day — gave him a five point day with a goal and three assists.

The Broncos had no shortage of shot opportunities finishing with 16 on the day, compared to MSU's 19, but WMU could not get one into the back of the net against the stifling Spartans defense.

"I would say it's close to where we want to be, obviously (we) still need to improve in some areas, but definitely the best 90 minute game we've played," Bennett said.

MSU next plays Saturday Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. against conference foe the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-1-1 overall, 4-1-0 Big Ten).
