Staycation

Students don't need to leave the area to still have an enjoyable and relaxing spring break

February 27, 2014

B eginning today, many students will flock to places with warmer weather for a week of fun under the sun. However, those who are staying behind on campus can still enjoy spring break. Here are a few places on campus students can visit to still get the vacation feel.

Relaxing poolside

Dip those toes into IM Sports-West’s indoor pool this spring break. IM Sports-West will be open to students who crave an active spring break. Students can come with friends and spend a day underwater. The indoor pool can give students the illusion of a tropical spring break for free with a student ID.

IM Sports-West will be open every day at various times. Check online for hours of operation.

On-campus feasting

For some, spring break offers a chance to try good food in exotic locations. Even though East Lansing isn’t quite exotic, students who stay behind can enjoy campus dining without the long lines. Though some of the dining halls on campus will be closed, there are a few that will be open serving students.

Brody Square, Holmes Hall, The Vista at Shaw Hall, Riverwalk Market and Wilson Hall will be open all throughout the week. The Gallery at Snyder and Phillips Hall and South Pointe at Case Hall will serve on the weekends.

Hours of operation vary and are available online.

Journey to Michigan’s capital

East Lansing has a wide amount of attractions but Lansing has even more. For students who have never explored Lansing, this week is the chance. Downtown Lansing has various shops, restaurants, museums, theatres, comedy clubs and bars for students to check out. Venues such as The Green Door put on live musical performances nightly for little or no cost at all. Students without a car can take the CATA Entertainment Express. The Entertainment Express is free with a bus pass or $0.60 with a student ID.

Dance your heart out

Spring Break is often the time for careless dancing and drinking with friends. Students who stay don’t have to miss out on the fun. East Lansing’s local bars such as Rick’s American CafeDublin Square Pub and Harper’s will remain open during the week with various specials.
