After one half of play, the No. 21 MSU women’s basketball team is trailing IPFW, 40-35, Sunday afternoon at Breslin Center.
MSU (5-1 overall) couldn’t contain IPFW’s outside shot with the Mastodons (3-4) hitting seven shots from beyond the arc out of 13 attempts.
MSU is 5-for-11 from 3-point range.
The scoring got started after both teams traded a pair of 3-pointers, and redshirt freshman guard Aerial Powers’ layup for MSU. But IPFW would hit three 3-pointers in as many possessions to take an early lead.
With about 13 minutes left in the first half, MSU trailed by two, but went on a 9-point run highlighted by 3-pointers by Powers and junior guard Kiana Johnson — giving MSU a 22-15 lead.
But guard Haley Seibert’s three for the Mastodons ignited a 16-2 run for IPFW for a 31-24 lead, and didn’t give up the lead for the remainder of the half.
Powers leads MSU with 13 points and five rebounds. Johnson leads with six assists.
IPFW forward Amanda Hyde leads all scorers with 15 points, and also has five assists.
