After one half of play at Breslin Center, the No. 18 women’s basketball team leads Grand Valley State, 43-26.
GVSU kept the game within a couple of points for much of the half, but the Spartans started to take control of the game nearing halftime.

MSU shot the ball well from behind the arc, going 5-for-10 on 3-pointers.
MSU was led by senior forward Annalise Pickrel’s eight points, six rebounds and two assists.
Redshirt freshman guard Aeriel Powers also pitched in 8 points, which included a wide open 3-pointer from the left side.
The Spartans attacked the boards and finished with 20 rebounds. The unselfish play by MSU showed with 12 assists. Junior guard Kiana Johnson was benched midway through the game because of foul trouble, but led the team’s passing attack with five assists. She also helped with two 3-pointers of her own.
Freshman guard Tori Jankoska, who scored 27 points in her collegiate debut against Ferris State, had 7 points.
Leading by only a couple of points with about seven minutes left, senior guard Klarissa Bell gave the Spartans a lift with a steal, which led to a Johnson 3-pointer.
