A great run at the end of the first half was the difference for the second night in a row, as the No. 1 men’s basketball team topped Oklahoma 87-76.
The game started with the Sooners coming out hot, leading the Spartans 22-11. MSU reminded everyone who the top-ranked team in the country was, as they closed the first half on a 34-9 run to go into half time with a 45-31 lead.
However, Oklahoma did not roll over in the second half. The Sooners fought back to cut the deficit to 57-53 with less than 12 minutes left in the game. The Spartans regained their intensity to close out the game by never surrendering their lead, winning the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Senior guard Keith Appling led the team with 27 points while sophomore guard Gary Harris came in second with 21. Junior forward Branden Dawson led the team on the boards with 10.
As far as individual performances go, Oklahoma’s Cameron Clark led the game with 32 points on the night.
