When sophomore guard Gary Harris and senior center Adreian Payne decided not to enter the 2013 NBA Draft, despite likely being first-round picks, many slated the MSU men’s basketball team to make a serious run for the National Championship. Now the road to the Final Four is clear, as the Big Ten released Wednesday the full 2013-14 conference schedule. It won’t be an easy road, with six of the games against teams who finished in the top 10 in the final USA Today Coaches Poll at the end of last season. MSU will kick off its conference schedule with consecutive road games on Dec. 31 against Penn State and on Jan. 4 at national powerhouse Indiana, who finished No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Spartans then will travel back home for their first conference game on Jan. 7 at Breslin Center against Ohio State, which will be part of ESPN’s Super Tuesday lineup. MSU’s first game against arch rival Michigan will be Jan. 25. It also was announced MSU would host College GameDay, the third time since the show’s inception in 2005 at Breslin Center, prior to facing the Wolverines. Earlier this month, MSU released its non-conference schedule for the upcoming season which will pit the Spartans against other top teams in the nation. MSU will square off against Kentucky on Nov. 12 in Chicago for the Champions Classic. MSU also will host Portland and Columbia for the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Nov. 15 and Nov. 18. Then on Nov. 22-23, MSU will travel to New York for the championship rounds where they will face Virginia Tech. The winner will face either Oklahoma or Seton Hall.
