East Lansing’s City Council met Tuesday to discuss issues around the community.
Not a surprise that construction was the hottest topic being talked about among the members. East Lansing Mayor Pro Tem Nathan Triplett considered Tuesday’s council meeting an, “evening of multicolored ordinances.”
East Lansing Engineering Administrator Robert Scheuerman spoke to the council members Tuesday night about the Sidewalk Ramp Construction Project which is looking to be built from Charles Street to the Albert and Burcham Street intersections.
Scheuerman said he isn’t expecting to any roadblock when it comes to completing this task.
“There shouldn’t be any problem. We’re going to let the contract and the warden do their work,” Scheuerman said.
The Community Development Block Grant would fund the Sidewalk Ramp Construction Project or as Schuerman classified it, the Charles Street Project.
No decision was made yet on this issue as talks are expected to resume during next week’s meeting.
An application from East Lansing’s Jonna’s 2 Go, 210 Michigan Ave., requested for a special use permit approval. The applicant is proposing to add liquor sales under a Specially Designated Distributor (SDD) license.
The application was discussed at the meeting with a decision due in a future meeting.
Another issue that was discussed was the request to allow downtown East Lansing merchants to use the sidewalks in front of their business to sell merchandise during the annual East Lansing Sidewalk Sales event and MSU welcome events.
The city council will continue talks on the matter at the next city council meeting next week.
This event will be held on Thursday July 18th through Sunday July 21st.
