With 10 days remaining before the NBA Draft Early Entry Eligibility Deadline, many underclassmen from across the country have taken a look at making the leap to the professional ranks.

However, Harris said although he has NBA dreams, they’re going to have to “wait another day.”

“I’m looking forward to my sophomore season with my Spartan brothers,” Harris said in a statement released by the MSU athletic department. “When the season was done, Coach Izzo gathered a lot of great information and shared it with me and my family. After talking things over with my parents, it is my decision to remain at Michigan State.”

A standout freshman campaign led Harris to find his name on many NBA Draft boards, including holding down the No. 33 spot on CBSSports.com College Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman’s list.

After getting bounced out of the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament by Duke, MSU head coach Tom Izzo addressed concerns of potentially losing Harris, junior guard Keith Appling and junior center Adreian Payne to the NBA Draft. Izzo continuously said he planned to meet with his underclassmen, along with their respective families and advisors, to discuss the route to best serve the interest of the players and the program.

In a statement, Izzo said he has “no doubt” Harris would have been a high draft pick if he were to have left but is “excited” for the opportunity to move forward with him in the rotation.

“Gary had a phenomenal freshman season, but his future is even brighter,” Izzo said in a statement. “After gathering many different opinions, it was determined that he would not need surgery on his shoulder. He’s been committed to his rehab and all indications are that he’s making great progress.

“There’s no question that a healthy Gary Harris is one of the premier guards in the country.”
