MSU advances to second round of NCAA Tournament after beating Marist, 55-47

College Park, Md. – Forty minutes and 17 3-pointers later, the MSU women’s basketball team beat Marist, 55-47, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Marist closed the gap early in the second half with a 14-0 run, with their first six field goals coming from behind the arc.

Then the Spartans found their stroke again when a jumper from sophomore Jasmine Hines, followed by a 3-pointer from sophomore Kiana Johnson.

Three Spartans finished in double figures, led by Johnson with 16 points and junior forward Annalise Pickrel, who finished with 14 points. Senior guard Jasmine Thomas added 10 points.

Junior guard Klarissa Bell only scored 2 points, but grabbed 10 rebounds.

MSU will face off against fourth seeded Maryland at 7 p.m. Monday.
