April public hearings set on proposed apartments at site of E.L. gas station

March 19, 2013

Public hearings were set in April for the public to discuss both a proposed project to tear down a gas station and build an apartment complex and an ordinance to require license application fees for a
change in ownership at the East Lansing City Council’s regular Tuesday meeting at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

The proposed apartment complex would replace the existing BP gas station, 504 Michigan Ave. The complex would be four stories tall and feature 21 four-bedroom apartments, with the first floor used for both commercial space and parking, with 34 on-site parking spaces.

The public hearing is set for April 16.

The East Lansing Planning Commission recently approved the recommendation to council to approve the project with a 7-1 vote.

Commissioner Fred Bauries was the only member to vote against the recommendation.

Another public hearing was set during the meeting on an ordinance that would allow the city to recover administrative costs associated with inspections triggered by the transfer of ownership of a restaurant.

The public hearing is set for April 2.
