The original Biggby coffee shop, located at 270 W. Grand River Ave., might be torn down and rebuilt as part of a new project developed by DTN Management Co.
The mixed-use project, called the “300 Grand River” project in city documents, is projected to cost between $15 million to $20 million, said Raji Uppal, vice president of DTN.
Uppal said while the project is separate from its Park District proposal, it will integrate with the vision and plan of the park project, as well as Valley Court Park.
He anticipates work on the project will begin next summer with hopes it will be completed around summer 2015.
The project will be about 5,000 square feet, with about 145 apartments above the retail space on the ground floor.
“The idea is about half retail space (be used) for a new and improved Biggby coffee shop,” Uppal said. “The other half could be used for things such as farmers’ market.”
DTN’s Park District proposal is to build a new parking structure with more than 400 parking spaces and a 10-story building with both hotel and residential units.
They also are looking to construct a five-story building for retail, grocery and small businesses.
