The Spartan Dischords will be performing their annual Valentine’s Day show, “Fourteen Shades of Dischords,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Pasant Theatre. Tickets sold at $8 for students and $10 for adults, but all 600 seats in the Pasant Theatre are sold out for this event.
President of the Spartan Dischords Alistair Beerens said he most looks forward to developing a chemistry with the audience during the concert.
“I’m most excited to see the audience’s reaction because we try to not only perform well, but be funny at the same time,” Beerens said. “It’s great when our group and the audience are really clicking, and I’m excited to see how that goes.”
The Valentine’s Day event is decorated for the holiday, including hand-written valentines for each seat. The all-male a capela group will perform songs from artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Script, Backstreet Boys and Sugar Ray.
Beerens said the Valentine’s Day show is often one of the most difficult to prepare for. New members were added in the winter semester, so for some it is their first performance. The group also only has had about a month to practice between the start of the semester and today’s performance.
The group took on six new songs for this year’s Valentine’s Day concert, showing their dedication to their performances, Beerens said.
The Spartan Dischords have four performances each year, one in the fall, a Christmas performance, a Valentine’s Day performance and one in the spring.
There are different types of people at each concert, Beerens said.
“The Christmas concert usually attracts more kids and families, but usually the end-of-the-year show is usually die-hard Dischord fans that come to all of our shows,” Beerens said. “The Valentine’s Day Show is usually a lot of new people looking for something to do.”
A free afterparty also will be taking place following Friday’s performance for those with a ticket.
