Women's basketball trails Penn State 34-25 at half

January 6, 2013

After sprinting out to a frantic pace in the opening minutes thanks to Penn State’s fullcourt pressure, the Spartans headed into the locker room down 34-25.

A 3-pointer by junior forward Annalise Pickrel left the Spartans down two, 15-13, with 9:40 left in the half. The No. 9-ranked Nittany Lions then went on an 11-0 run, which proved to be the difference in the half.

The Nittany Lions pushed the lead to as large as 13, but the Spartans counter-punched in the waning minutes to keep the margin manageable.

Sophomore forward Becca Mills paced the Spartans with 12 points, including two 3-pointers.

Penn State’s Alex Bentley has a team-high nine points, while star guard Maggie Lucas who averages 21.2 points per game has six.
