The MSU women’s basketball team’s winning streak came to an end as they lost to No. 19 Dayton 60-53 Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore forward Becca Mills led all scorers with a season high 18 points, and senior forward Courtney Schiffauer recorded a double-double with a season high 12 points, and a career high 11 rebounds. Junior guard Klarissa Bell also chipped in 12 points.
With the best statistical defense in the country, the Spartans held the Flyers fifth ranked scoring offense (83.3 points per game) to just 60 points, even without sophomore center Jasmine Hines, who was attending the funeral of a high school friend.
Schiffauer also had a career high three blocks and played every minute of the game for the first time.
After recently returning from foot surgery, freshman guard Branndais Agee played a season high 22 minutes, grabbing four rebounds and a single steal.
MSU only hit two of their 15 3-point attempts, and went a season low 29.7 percent (19-for-64) from the floor.
The next time the Spartans are in action will be at 2 p.m. on December 16 in Jenison Field House against IPFW when sophomore guard Kiana Johnson and redshirt freshman forward Akyah Taylor return from their nine game suspension.
