Update: Police confirm morning's incident not a shooting

October 29, 2012

Update, 12:40 p.m.: WLNS-TV reports police confirm this morning’s possible shooting on U.S. 23 was not a shooting.

Police are investigating another possible shooting that occurred around 9 a.m. on U.S. 23 near the I-96 corridor.

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wrigglesworth said police are unsure if the victim’s vehicle was hit by a stone or a bullet.

Out of an apparent abundance of caution, WDIV-TV reports Brighton, Mich., schools are on lockdown while police search for a possible shooter.

There have been 25 confirmed shootings since Oct. 16 near the I-96 and M-52 corridors, with two incidents occurring on Saturday around 11:40 a.m. and 12:20 p.m reported on I-96, Wrigglesworth said. He said he does not know of the incident Monday morning is connected to the series of shootings.

Police have more than 560 tips related to the shooting spree, and are continuing to investigate the incidents, he said.
