Last Thursday through Saturday, MSU hosted the third Meaningful Play conference, which educates participants in video game theory, research, design innovations, principles and practices.

Meaningful Play brought about 300 students and professors together with industry professionals to collectively understand and improve upon games to entertain, educate, persuade and inform gamers in meaningful ways.

The conference included keynote speeches from leaders in the video game industry, such as Phaedra Boinodiris, IBM’s Serious Games program manager, John Ferrara, Megazoid Games’ creative director and Michael John, the Electronic Arts Glass Laboratory’s general manager.

Other than six keynote and 12 speaker presentations, the conference included 94 paper presentations, 12 discussion panels, four workshops, 20 poster presentations, 48 game demos and an array of networking opportunities.

Two previous Meaningful Play conferences were held at MSU in 2008 and 2010, with each events’ success contributing to subsequent conferences.
