On a night where the offense couldn’t get going, Le’Veon Bell wouldn’t stop.
The junior running back had a career-high 44 carries for 210 yards and two touchdowns, single-handedly lifting the No. 13 MSU football team to a 17-13 victory over No. 24 Boise State.
After tallying a touchdown on their opening drive of the game, MSU’s offense went cold, allowing Boise State to take a 13-10 lead into halftime.
Things didn’t get much better for MSU’s offense in the third quarter, but the Spartan defense kept MSU in the game, limiting Boise State to 35 yards in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter MSU began to move the ball steadily, thanks in large part to Bell, who put MSU in front 17-13 with the game’s final score, a five-yard touchdown run with 8:12 to go in the game.
After a critical stop by MSU’s defense on a fourth down slant pass by Boise State with 6:32 to go.
From there, MSU was able to hold onto the ball and run out the clock, securing victory in the season opener.
Junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell finished his first career start completing 22-of-38 passes for 248 yards and three interceptions and the MSU defense held Boise State to 206 total yards.
