Hockey team unveils new jerseys

June 28, 2012

Today, the MSU athletics department unveiled the new hockey jerseys for the 2012-13 season that head coach Tom Anastos announced a few months ago. hockey/slideshow/photos?url=https://p.twimg.com/AwgN0onCIAAd9Mb.jpg

The home white jerseys feature the Spartan head logo on the chest with another logo and numbers on the shoulders. The sides of the jersey and sleeves each have thick green stripes down the side, with the numbers on the back printed in green outlined in bronze. On the white socks, there is a thick green stripe between two thin white stripes.

The away jerseys feature the same design but reversed colors with a base color of green and white stripes.

“In developing this new design, we gathered a lot of feedback from our players about the jersey’s fit, feel, performance and look,” Anastos said in a release. “We feel that the design that Nike has developed has a cutting-edge look and embraces the values of the Spartan brand.”

The program also revealed its new alternate, vintage uniforms which will be debuted at the 2012 Great Lakes Invitational. The retro jerseys, which will only be used for special events, feature essentially the same design, with the main difference being the substitution of the script Michigan State logo for the Spartan head and a new colored stripe by the hip.

“The script `Michigan State’ logo was introduced in my freshman season [1980-81] and over the course of time, became one of the iconic jerseys in college hockey,” Anastos said. “We will be bringing this design back on a limited basis, and will wear them for special events and for select games. Our players are really excited about it and we know that it resonates with so many of our alumni and fans.”
