ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government, will hold elections for officer positions tonight at 7 p.m., wrapping up what current officers have called a transition year. The group’s seven officer position are up for grabs, as many of its current officers are not eligible for re-election.

Running for Chairperson
Evan Martinak, international relations and economics junior
SN: If you could change anything about your year in ASMSU, what would it be and why?
EM: I would improve on ASMSU’s direct grassroots connection to the students. … We have come to realize … it is not the responsibility of the (students) to come to us, but for us to reach out to the students.

Running for Vice Chairperson for Academic Affairs
Emily Bank, International relations and social relations and policy sophomore
SN: What is your favorite thing about being a Spartan?
EB: The MSU Dairy Store! But in all seriousness, I love the Spartan pride constantly displayed at the university and how this school serves as an open forum to express yourself openly. But really, the ice cream is awesome.

Running for Vice Chairperson for Finance and Operations, Vice Chairperson for Student Funding
Kyle Clifton, general management sophomore
SN: Why did you decide to run for an officer position on ASMSU?
KC: I am passionate about helping students. I feel that as an officer, my skills in leadership can help ASMSU grow as an organization and have a greater impact on the university and community.

Running for Vice Chairperson for Student Funding, Secretary
Michael Mozina, social relations and policy sophomore
SN: How do you think ASMSU can improve next year?
MM: I think ASMSU can continue to become better well known on our campus. I always get questions when I tell people I’m a delegate on ASMSU like, “The group who gives free blue books?” … We’re also so much more than that.

Running for Vice Chairperson for Governmental Affairs
Dylan Miller, genetics and political theory and constitutional democracy senior
SN: What are some of your accomplishments in ASMSU this past year, and how do you hope to continue them?
DM: I tried to be an active, involved representative who consulted with their constituency.

Running for Secretary
Denzel McCampbell, general management and political science junior
SN: What are some areas you think ASMSU can (and should) improve on next year?
DM: I think everyone involved with ASMSU strives to get increased visibility and knowledge of the association each year.

Running for Vice Chair for Student Programming
Chris McClain, psychology sophomore
SN: If you had President Lou Anna K. Simon’s job for a day, what would you do?
CB: I would tour her office. … I hear it’s a very large and impressive sight. … The arrangement of an office says a lot about the person.

Running for secretary
Jamayl Martin, psychology freshman
SN: What is your favorite thing about being a Spartan?
JM: I love the enriching environment. I truly believe I am among a unique and elite mass of students.
