MSU Information Technology Resources released a revised Acceptable Use Policy, or AUP, on Friday.

The AUP, which was last revised in 1992, governs the use of MSU’s IT resources.

It was revised because the Internet environment, laws, commercial services and social expectations related to Internet usage have changed since the policy first was written, according to a statement released from Information Technology Resources.

The new AUP goes into effect today.

Administrative practices regarding the use of technology resources will not change, according to the statement.

“MSU and its system administrators do not routinely monitor individual use of (information technology) resources or actively seek out violations of the Acceptable Use Policy,” Information Technology Resources representative Katherine Ball said.

“Generally, MSU does not undertake investigations without a triggering event, such as a complaint or a technical system or service performance problem.”
