MSU downed by U-M, 60-59

The anticipated matchup of No. 20 Michigan and the No. 9 MSU men’s basketball team saw the Spartans defeated in Ann Arbor, 60-59.

The Wolverines took the one-point lead with 31.4 remaining on the clock.

After falling behind 10 in the first half the No. 9 MSU men’s basketball team came within one with less than two minutes left in the first half, but went into halftime trailing, 36-29.

Senior Austin Thornton and Brandan Kearney added two key 3-pointers each to keep the Spartans in the game. Thronton finished with eight points and several key rebounds and hustle plays. Junior center Derrick Nix led MSU scorers with 13 points.

Senior forward Draymond Green provided MSU with seven points and eleven rebounds, while sophomore guard Keith Appling added ten points and five assists.

Michigan guard Trey Burke led the Wolverines with 20 points as guards Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Zack Novak added 10 each.
