Sparty in Capital One playoffs

After 12 weeks of competition in the Capital One Mascot Challenge, Sparty has advanced to the playoffs by making it into the top eight competitors. The eight finalists were determined by the mascots’ records in the regular season.

The 12-week regular season began on Aug. 29 and paired Sparty in weekly voting competitions against other mascots from around the country to determine a winner.

The playoffs will be a bracket-style, single-elimination three-week tournament with the winner being announced on Jan. 2, 2012 at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.The winning mascot will be named Capital One National Mascot of the Year and win a $20,000 prize to the school’s mascot program.

Sparty is joined in the playoffs by fellow Big Ten foe Brutus Buckeye from Ohio State University and defending national champion Big Blue of Old Dominion University.
