East Lansing Fire Marshal Bob Pratt will retire from the department in January 2012.
Pratt told The State News he tentatively will retire in mid-to-late January, and the department most likely will hire his replacement internally to reduce its budget.
Pratt’s retirement has been planned for the past several months, but the official date had not been set previously.
East Lansing Fire Chief Randy Talifarro also could take an interim position as combined fire chief for Lansing and East Lansing around the same time as Pratt’s retirement, pending a decision by the city councils of both municipalities.
This change would take place following the retirement of Lansing Fire Chief Tom Cochran on Jan. 15, 2012.
