Suspect in arson attempt pleads guilty

A suspect in the 1999 arson attempt on MSU’s Agriculture Hall plead guilty to federal charges yesterday in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, according the Grand Rapids Press.

Jesse Waters, 30, plead guilty to felony charges of misprision of felony for concealing his role in the crime, according to the article. Waters faces a maximum of three years in prison.

The incident was led by the Earth Liberation Front in protest against genetic research. The fire caused about $1 million in damage, according to previous reports by The State News.

Waters said he helped Marie Mason and Frank Ambrose, dispose of clothing after the incident.
Ambrose and Mason were sentenced last year to pay more than $4 million in restitution.

Mason was sentenced to 22 years in prison for her role in the crime, while Ambrose was ordered to serve 9 years.
