Police recover bike stolen on campus

September 26, 2011

An 18-year-old male student reported his bike stolen between 11 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 21 from the bike racks on the east side of the Union, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The bike was a black Diamondback valued at $370 and was locked to the racks with a combination lock — which also allegedly was stolen and is valued at $12, McGlothian-Taylor said.

After the student reported the bike stolen, an East Lansing police officer apprehended a suspect near Louis Street and Michigan Avenue with a bike matching the description of the one reported stolen.

The suspect was a 22-year-old male from Muskegon, Mich.

The East Lansing police turned the bike over to the MSU Police Department, who then released the bike to the student after checking the registration.

The incident is no longer under investigation.
