Students evacuated the Engineering Building after a falsely sounded fire alarm sounded, shutting down the surrounding sidewalks for an hour Monday afternoon.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., a fire alarm was set off as a result of an electrical issue with the building’s fire panel, East Lansing fire Capt. Troy Brya said.
East Lansing firefighters investigated the source of the alarm and found that steam from a relief valve in the building’s basement set off the heat censors, Brya said.
Hundreds of students, staff and faculty members were evacuated from the building and waited across the street from the building until the responding firefighters deemed the building safe to enter.
